TDSB must return to a student-focused agenda that prioritizes academic achievement and expanded opportunities for every student to reach their unique potential
With my twenty-five years of advocacy in education I will work to:
EXPERIENCE
Education Advocacy and Volunteer Leadership
Parent and Community Involvement: Over 25 years of active leadership and participation in school-related activities, including 10 years on School Councils (5 as Chair).
- Key Roles: Led dozens of a large variety and range of initiatives at junior and senior public schools, including chairing councils and committees, fundraising, and advocating for educational programs.
- Program Development: Played a significant role in implementing programs like Empower Reading, and significant support of programs like steel pan music, athletic teams, and after-school activities.
- Community Safety: Served on City committees addressing safety issues at multiple schools related to the Roehampton Hotel shelter, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
Achievements in School Councils:
- Junior and Senior Schools: Advocated for educational resources and organized community-building events.
- Fundraising: Coordinated events like silent auctions and community picnics, raising significant funds for school needs.
- Educational Support: Supported the development of learning disability resources and other academic programs.
Professional Background:
- Business Career: Experience at CBC, Global, CTV, and Bell, in producing, reporting, and strategic roles. Notably, managed national broadcast schedules during critical events like September 11th.
Key Skills:
- Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to chair committees, lead fundraising efforts, and develop long-term plans.
- Community Engagement: Built partnerships with various stakeholders to enhance educational outcomes and community safety.
- Advocacy and Representation: Actively worked to ensure the interests of diverse learning needs and community safety were addressed
